Gatistar 0.5% eye drops 5 ml

Gatistar is a sterile ophthalmic solution containing a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat and prevent bacterial eye infections.

Composition:

• Active ingredient:
• Gatifloxacin 5 mg/ml
(fluoroquinolone antibiotic)
• Preservative:
• Benzalkonium chloride 0.05 mg/ml

Pharmacological properties:

Gatifloxacin blocks the enzymes DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV in bacterial cells, which disrupts replication and transcription processes, leading to the death of microorganisms.
Effective against most gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria that cause ophthalmic infections, including:
• Staphylococcus aureus
• Streptococcus pneumoniae
• Haemophilus influenzae
• Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Indications for use:

• Bacterial conjunctivitis
• Stye
• Blepharitis
• Keratitis
• Prevention of infections after ophthalmic interventions

Method of administration and dosage:

Instill 1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) every 2 hours for the first 2 days, then 1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) 3-4 times a day for the next 5 days
