Diax Nifuroxazide 220 mg/5 ml 60 ml Oral Suspension

Composition:

Each 5 ml of the oral suspension contains:

Nifuroxazide: 220 mg

Indications for Use:

Diax Oral Suspension is used in the treatment of acute diarrhea assumed to be of bacterial origin, in the absence of invasive symptoms such as fever, general status alteration, or signs of toxic infections. It should be used in conjunction with rehydration supplements.

The treatment does not replace dietary measures or necessary rehydration.

The need for oral rehydration solution or intravenous rehydration should be determined based on the severity of diarrhea, the patient’s age, and any underlying conditions.

Official guidelines on the appropriate use of antibiotics should be consulted.

Dosage and Administration:

Infants over 2 years of age: 660 mg (15 ml) per day in 3 divided doses.

Treatment should not exceed 7 days.

Contraindications:

-Hypersensitivity to nifuroxazide or any of its components.

-Not recommended for premature infants, neonates (0-1 month), or infants under 2 years of age.

Warnings and Precautions:

-In cases of infectious diarrhea with signs suggesting invasive phenomena, an antibiotic with good systemic diffusion should be used.

-Rehydration is an essential part of treating acute diarrhea in children. Oral rehydration solutions should be used, following the correct reconstitution and usage instructions.

-The concentration of sodium in the rehydration solution should be within 30-60 mmol/l, with solutions containing at least 30 mmol/l sodium reserved for mild dehydration.

-The recommended glucose concentration is 74-110 mmol/l. The addition of hydrolyzed proteins or amino acids does not improve rehydration or nutritional status.

-It is important to encourage frequent fluid intake in children, with an intake of 50-100 ml/kg body weight for dehydration of 5-10%.

-In cases of severe or prolonged diarrhea, this medicine should not be used in patients with fructose intolerance, glucose or galactose malabsorption, or sucrase-isomaltase deficiency.

Precautions of Use:

-If rehydration is prescribed, ensure that the method and reconstitution instructions are clearly explained.

-If no rehydration is needed, it is important to emphasize the need to rehydrate the child with salty or sugary drinks to compensate for fluid loss from diarrhea.

-During diarrhea, continue feeding, avoiding heavy or spicy foods and considering the removal of milk and dairy products on a case-by-case basis.

-If the child has diarrhea, consider the possibility of saccharase deficiency before prescribing a product containing sucrose.

-For individuals on a strict low-sodium diet, the sodium content in the oral suspension should be considered.

Pregnancy and Lactation:

Pregnancy: Animal studies have not shown teratogenic effects. However, there is insufficient data regarding the potential deformative or fetotoxic effects of nifuroxazide in humans. As a precautionary measure, it is recommended not to use nifuroxazide during pregnancy.

Lactation: Breastfeeding is possible during short-term treatment with this medication.

Undesirable Effects:

Possible allergic reactions may occur.

Storage Conditions:

Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C.

Packaging:

The oral suspension is supplied in a carton box containing a 60 ml bottle.
